Use your move preparation as an opportunity to clear things out
You never appreciate how much stuff you’ve accumulated until you have to move it all!
Think about how your furniture will fit in your new space
Draw a floor plan and sketch out the placement of your furniture. Select the furniture you want to keep and get rid of the pieces that do not fit into your new home. This will lighten you move and make the move smoother.
Make sure you have lots of packing tape and boxes
Set yourself up for success by having plenty of tape, boxes and markers. Be sure to label each box with the contents and the location it needs to go in the new home.
Plan where your movers can park and unload
Make sure to inform the movers where they can park and unload before the move. This will save valuable time and hassle on moving in day, and insure that the move will go smoothly.
The right tools for the job
Rent or borrow hand trucks and dollies so that moving heavy boxes and appliances is as easy as possible.
Teach your kids their new address and phone number
Turn it into a learning game and this will be much easier.
Make sure your movers know your alarm codes
You don’t want your movers waiting around because they can’t get into the house!
Unplug your TV one day before moving
This will ensure that any heat that can damage your TV has dissipated before it gets moved.
Don’t use any special cleaning fluid on furniture
Some waxes and oils can soften wood making it easier to dent and damage during the move.
Get some sleep!
Moving day is stressful enough. Make sure to get plenty of sleep the night before the move so you can start early and get it done!
Getting ready to move doesn’t have to be stressful as long as you designate some time to work on it each day and don’t procrastinate. Everyone will experience a move at least once in their lives. The time you invest in moving preparation will have a huge impact in lowering the stress of your move and will help you complete a smooth move!
