Can you live in a Foreclosure?

After you have purchased a foreclosure you may have no clue what to do with it. Of course, you should have a plan of action before you purchase a foreclosure but sometimes purchases are made at the spur of the moment. Things happen, and you may end up in a situation where you have to make a decision on what to do. So can you live in a foreclosure? This is a question that you may need to answer sooner rather than later if you have made a recent purchase. Unfortunately, there is no cut and dry answer to this question. There are many things that you must first consider if you are thinking about living in a foreclosure that you purchased.

First off, what kind of shape is the foreclosure in? Generally speaking, many foreclosures have their quirks and are not in overall good condition. Remember, the past owner was forced to move from their home because they were unable to pay their mortgage. Without the funds to pay for the mortgage the former owners certainly could not have paid for the upkeep of the home. Another reason that the home may not be in great condition is that foreclosed homes often sit empty for months on end. While this may seem like an issue that may hamper your ability to move in it may not always be the case.

If you have found that your foreclosure is not yet in livable condition, you may be able to change this in no time at all. With a bit of elbow grease, organization skills, and some do it yourself know how you can turn your foreclosure in to a home in no time. If you are not capable of doing all of the repairs yourself you may want to hire a professional that understands your needs and wants to assist you with refurbishing your new foreclosed home. With the money that you saved buying your foreclosure you should have more than enough money to fund the repairs and enhancements that you need.

Finally, make sure that a foreclosure is safe before you move in. With any home purchase always hire a certified inspector to thoroughly inspect your home before you move in. This is probably something that you already initiated, but it is always important to emphasize the need for a home inspection with any type home purchase. You never want to risk your health or that of a family member. Always hire a certified inspector to inspect your home to make sure that your foreclosure is safe, sound, and free of any hazards.

As you can see, even if you are unable to live in your foreclosure immediately after purchase with a little elbow grease and a few repairs you can fix it up and turn it into a warm and inviting home.
